    Location

      Israel -- Syria

    Background

    • Authority - Security Council Resolution - most recently, Resolution 1351 (May 2001)
    • Initial Canadian Commitment - request was made in May 1974 for a logistics unit of 226 military personnel.

    Mandate/Tasks

      UNDOF Mandate:

      • to supervise the cease-fire between Israel and Syria;
      • to supervise redeployment of Israeli and Syrian forces (completed);
      • to establish a buffer zone in accordance with the Disengagement Agreement; and
      • mandate is renewed every six months (30 May/30 Nov). Current Mandate approved until May 97.

      UNDOF Tasks

      • to supervise the Area of Separation; and
      • to inspect the Areas of Limitations regarding armaments and forces in accordance with the Disengagement Agreement.

      Canadian Tasks

      • to Provide 2nd line logistics support to UNDOF as specified by HQ UNDOF. This primarily involves supply, transport, and maintenance; and
      • to provide communications detachments to the two base camps, Camp Faouar and Camp Ziouani.
